Polar Lights Addams Family Haunted House with paint inspired by the box art. This buildup I included many extra features not found in the original kit, including, a custom base, scary trees, fence, lighting kit and "Beware of the Thing" sign.

Here is an exhibit I did in July called  "Model Kits: Then and Now"  exhibited at the Upper Moreland Free Public Library. There are 3 glass shelves filled with completed models and educational information. The top shelf is a short history of modeling including how it got its start in Willow Grove (where I am located) and the benefits as a hobbyist. The middle shelf shows a model kit at the various stages from the box to completion. And finally the bottom shelf includes the basic materials used in modeling. The exhibit dates are June 8 to July 22. If you are in the area of Willow Grove Pa, be sure to stop in and check it out. Some of the models you see on these pages will be there.

The first buildup I did when I returned to my childhood hobby of model building was the Lost in Space Dr. Smith and the Robot. It remains one of my FAVORITES esp. since Dr. Smith and the Robot are perfect likenesses. However, (no offense to Polar Lights, the producer of the kit) but I absolutely hate the flimsy and awkward looking base that comes with the kit, so, I substitued a Jimmy Flintstone produced planet terrain resin base. This will transform this kit into one of PERFECTION!  It can now be the awesome Lost in Space display that it deserves. Ya gotta love Dr. Smith, Oh the pain.

One of my favorite Outer Limits characters is Regina Queen Bee in the episode titled ZZZZ. Here is a completed model of Regina and a custom base. The original kit does not come with a base other than a flat plate, unfortunately, so I have used a base from another kit. This base, although from another kit, works perfectly as it depicts Regina in a scene at the very beginning where she transforms from a bee into a human likeness in the garden.

As inspired by the new hit series Bates Motel, here's the completed and customized Bates Mansion. Note I have included a Norman Bates custom figure walking to the front door, with his customary jacket on. If you get a chance to watch the new series, do so, you won't be disappointed.

Here's a picture of the U.N. 1 Space Ship from "First Men in the Moon" completed. The kit does not come with a base, so I purchased a generic moon base to go with it. If you are a BIG FAN of the movie as I am, you need to get this one. Its not a perfect kit though...it does not come with the equipment on top of the space ship. Not sure if this was an oversight by the producer of the kit? Also, the decals totally crumbled and are unusable so you if you buy one you may have to have a steady hand and paint the red and white squares on the ship. The U.N.1 logo was cut and pasted.

Here's the completed Selenite from "First Men in the Moon" a favorite movie of mine. It is done in my impression of what it would look like and top coated with a satin finish. I used acrylics for the Selenite and oil enamels for the crystals....next I will tackle the U.N. Space Ship . See my previous blog when I took a trip to "Cherry Cottage" where the movie actually took place.

Met Caroline Munro at Chiller

From the  Chiller Theatre Expo  in Parsippany NJ, where I had the great pleasure of meeting one of my favorite actresses Caroline Munro, a beautiful person inside and out. She played in two of my personal favorite movies,  The Golden Voyages of Sinbad  and  At The Earths Core .  The Expo was held at the Sheraton in Parsippany and it turned out to be an excellent location. There was plenty of room for exhibitors and guests. Had a great time. If you get the chance, check it out. Accompanying the picture with Caroline is the resin kit I painted of her in the movie along with a lobby card for a terrific display.
